Responsibilities:

  • Conduct, design and lead critical-path discovery research to validate targets, elucidate the mechanism of action and optimize the activity of the therapeutic agents
  • Use a diverse range of complementary methods and readouts in a variety of functional in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo human and/or animal assays to assess the safety and efficacy of drug development compounds
  • Propose or implement innovative equipment or technology
  • Manage research activities with external collaborators (CRO’s and academic partners) to ensure that timeliness and progression of projects are in line with internal project plans
  • Contribute to optimization of programs using methods encompassing all aspects of drug discovery
  • Actively follow literature around new methods and therapeutic approaches for further translation into experimental design
  • Oversee cell culture activities of various human and mouse cell lines molecular, biochemical and cell biology-based assays
  • Summarize/report data and generate presentation materials. Present at internal and external meetings

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • PhD in fibrosis biology, molecular biology, immunology or biochemistry.
  • +2 years working experience (pharma or biotech industry experience is preferred)
  • Sound experience in one of the following therapeutic areas: liver, lung, or kidney fibrosis
  • Hands-on lab experience with a broad range of molecular techniques and instruments:
    • RNA/DNA isolation, RT-PCR, electrophoresis, libraries preparation for sequencing, RT-qPCR for analysis of gene expression
    • Mammalian cell culture, Cell-based assays including luminescence/fluorescence reporter assays, imaging, FACS, proliferation and viability assays and others
    • Protein extraction, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, MSD and other protein assays
    • Excellent planning and strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities
    • Ability to learn and combine new techniques and concepts to perform exploratory activities at risk
    • Self-motivation and able to work independently in a fast-paced, small company environment
    • Pro-active and problem-solving attitude
    • Good record-keeping with an aptitude to work collaboratively within different cross-functional teams
    • Scientific curiosity, initiative, commitment, flexibility, and good organizational skills
    • Fluency in English with the ability to clearly communicate data and ideas
    • Eligible to work in Switzerland (CH citizen or permit holder or EU citizen)
